BJP worker in AP attempts self-immolation

Protesting the alleged raw deal meted out to the party in Andhra Pradesh, a Bharatiya Janata Party worker on Wednesday attempted self-immolation in Hyderabad even as office-bearers of the city unit of the party offered to resign.

The protests within the saffron party grew louder after three days of hectic parleys between Telugu Desam Party and BJP leaders failed to sort out irritants.

As rumblings of protests gripped the state unit over the alleged 'abject surrender' to the TDP in seat-sharing talks, scores of partymen staged a noisy demonstration before the residence of senior party leader and Union Minister of State for Urban Development B Dattatreya in Hyderabad.

An enraged party worker, Sudarshan Reddy, attempted suicide by dousing himself with kerosene but was saved by the timely intervention by his party colleagues.
