Khattar quits as Maruti MD; to be reinstated as SMC nominee

Jagdish Khattar, managing director of Maruti Udyog Ltd, on Wednesday tendered his resignation to the government.

However, he is likely to be renominated to the post by Suzuki Motor Corporation on Thursday after the Japanese partner acquires majority stake in the car-making joint venture.

"I have resigned as managing director. I have sent in my papers to the government which had nominated me to the board," Khattar said after he met the Divestment Minister Arun Shourie on Wednesday afternoon.

The resignation is a mere formality, as Japanese auto giant Suzuki which is in the process of acquiring management control in Maruti Udyog Ltd has decided to nominate Jagdish Khattar as head of the company's operations.
