Stung by Ratan Tata's accusation that competitors were fuelling the controversy over Tata Motors' car project at Singur in West Bengal, Maruti dared Tatas on Wednesday to name the competitor.

"I don't know which competitor he is talking about. Since he has the knowledge, he should tell it," Maruti Udyog Managing Director and CEO Jagdish Khattar told reporters in New Delhi.

Refusing to be drawn into a discussion, Khattar said his company did not indulge in such activities. "We don't do all these things (scuttling a rival's project). We believe in healthy competition," he added.

Last month, Ratan Tata had remarked that he suspected hands of competitors in the controversy at Singur, where the company is setting up a manufacturing plant for its ambitious Rs 1,00,000 car.

There has been speculation in the market that the arrival of the 'people's car' would affect Maruti's erstwhile flagship model M800 -- currently India's cheapest car at nearly Rs 2,00,000.

Khattar, however, refuted that such a thing was likely to happen.

"In the event of the RsĀ 100,000 car coming, it will only help M800, as it would narrow the gap with two-wheelers," he said.
