The Union Government on Thursday informed the Supreme Court that it has passed deportation orders for eight Pakistani prisoners as the neighbouring country has agreed to accept them.
Attorney General Soli Sorabjee told a bench comprising Justice Ruma Pal and Justice P V Reddy that the government has fixed the time limit for their deportation at September 30.
Five other Pakistani prisoners have been provided consular facilities for authentication of their identities.
Sorabjee said two other Pakistani prisoners, who had approached the Supreme Court, cannot be released as they are facing trial.
The court appreciated efforts of the Attorney General and adjourned hearing for six months.
