Panel seeks Tehelka's camera

The Justice Phukan Commission, which is probing the Tehelka defence expose, on Friday asked the portal to produce within a week the original equipment used in Operation Westend.

The order came after foreign experts expressed doubts over certain portions of the videotapes pertaining to the expose.

Earlier, tehelka.com editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal said in New Delhi that the media had lost its ability to shame those in power.

"People respect us because we have taken punishment for the past over two years," he said, adding, "on our stories they (the government) will raise some bogey one day to prove us wrong."

He announced that Tehelka was launching a weekly paper -- Tehelka - The People's Paper -- by the mid of November this year . 

"The paper will not be aligned to any political party or vested business interests," he said.
