The Maharashtra government on Tuesday suspended Director General of State Police Housing and Welfare Corporation Rahul Gopal, who was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau on Monday.
Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil told reporters in Mumbai that the ACB had enough proof of Gopal's involvement in corruption.
The ACB had questioned Gopal on December 15 over his alleged links with astrologer Govind Chandak, who was arrested by the bureau on December 8.
Chandak was charged with duping people by claiming to be close to senior bureaucrats.
The ACB had found Gopal, who had taken over as DG of the police housing corporation in August this year, with Chandak during a raid on a guesthouse in South Mumbai.
Rs 1 lakh was recovered from Gopal's official car.
