Militants hiding in a village home in Jammu and Kashmir exchanged gunfire with police and paramilitary soldiers on Wednesday, leaving four dead, and a grenade blast in Srinagar injured six people, the police said.
One militant, two police officers and a paramilitary soldier died in the gunfight, Inspector General S P Vaid said. There was no way to independently confirm the identity of the suspected militant.
The gunfight took place when security forces raided Chakka village after receiving a tip that three rebels were hiding
there. Chakka is 180 km northeast of Jammu.
The house where the militants were hiding and two adjacent ones were consumed by flames, and the fate of the other two militants was not immediately known, Vaid said.
In a different incident, militants lobbed a grenade at police officers in the heart of Srinagar. Six people were injured, including two policemen and four civilians, said Hasib Ahmed, a police officer.
