Main Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday blamed the ruling United Progressive Alliance government's 'soft approach' on terrorism for the serial bombings in Mumbai and Srinagar.
Condemning the bomb attacks, BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad said former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, party chief Rajnath Singh and senior party leader L K Advani have appealed for calm.
"The BJP leadership condemns these blasts in the strongest terms," he told PTI.
Prasad, whose party had opposed the repeal of the Prevention of Terrorism Act, however, insisted that terror attacks had increased in the country over the past two years. "There has been a rise in terror attacks under the UPA because it is soft on terrorism. Initiatives against terrorism have been traded for votes and the message has been very clear to terrorists and their patrons," Prasad said.
